Moving to San Francisco felt like the perfect opportunity to finally explore a craft I'd been curious about for years: letterpress printing. I completed the Cylinder Core Certificate Program at the SF Center for the Book, where I learned to set metal type by hand, mix inks, and pull impressions on a hand-fed cylinder press from the 1930s. What I didn't expect was how much the process would sharpen my design thinking. Working within the physical constraints of a printing press forces you to be intentional with every choice, from type selection to registration to color mixing. Each studio session became its own creative problem to solve, resulting in broadsides, posters, and a custom stationery suite. Below you'll find videos and photos from my time in the studio and the printed pieces I walked away with.
